How to become an important asset for your organization:

Someone truly said, “Any organization is as good as its employees.” Organization always looks for people who can take it ahead and meet its goals. These employees are known as true assets of the organization as they contribute not only with their work but in many ways. These employees grow and reach to the management level. However there are many ways you can be one of them. Few of the factors are listed below:
  • Time Keeping: Be a keeper of your time. That means finish your work within the deadlines given by your superior. Every supervisor respects this quality of its subordinate. In case of delay, keep your supervisor well informed in advance along with the reasons justifying the delay.
 
  • Maintaining Discipline: Every organization forms its rules and policies through which it governs its employees. As an employee they expect you to follow the same without any exceptions. Reach office on time so that you don’t lose the time which was supposed to be invested on work. Also reaching on time will help you to plan your day while prioritizing your work. If going on a leave, your supervisor should be well informed so that your absence does not impact the work and its deadlines. People tend to opt for escapist route while not informing the supervisor well in advance hence create the atmosphere of indiscipline. Same goes for attire. One is expected to wear the attire prescribed in the Employee manual if mentioned.
 
  • Quality of work: Quality of work also plays an important role when it comes to the recognition part. Once working on any project/assignment, make sure you are taking care of quality expected out of the same. If you are compromising on the quality then work will lose its value automatically. It also devalue your importance in the organization.
 
  • Taking initiative: Employer or superior always wants such people in the team who take initiatives whenever required. They are the one who raise their hand in case of crisis situation for the organization or sometimes play the role of situational leader.
 
  • Support for others: When working in a team, it is really essential not only to focus on your work but also look for accomplishment of team’s goal. This may require you to help others and should be looked like a support rather than an obstacle for the people around. Supporting others makes you more valuable asset for the organization. However, helping others doesn’t mean you don’t finish your work within the deadline. This quality takes you to the next level of work.
 
  • Maintaining harmonious environment: You should avoid unnecessary issues to be created and maintain an atmosphere of happiness and harmony around yourself. Disputes and unnecessary issues tarnish your image making people think negative about you. You should be having a pleasing personality who attracts others. You should spread positivism and happiness through body language and words used at the workplace.
 
  • Loyalty and Honesty towards your organization: You should be a well wisher of your organization and should deliver your responsibilities with utmost honesty. You should look for your organizational benefits in what so ever actions you are taking. However, you should not engage in any malpractice even if it is beneficial for your organization. As a well wisher, take responsibility to communicate such things to the higher level in case organization is doing anything which is unethical and correct their course of action. Loyalty doesn’t mean blind support.
There may be other qualities as well. However you may start with these suggestions at the beginning to prove yourself an important asset for your organization.
